1. The purpose of JTAS<\/h3>\n

In this program, the following will be focused on throughout the program of study:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Fundamental Japanese for foreign students living in Japan.<\/li>\n
  2. Japanese relevant to the culture and society of Japan, to aid in a deeper understanding of the culture, customs, and society.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    2\uff0e Courses<\/h3>\n

    1) For zero beginner students<\/h3>\n

    The following 4 subjects are compulsory for those who have never learned Japanese.<\/p>\n

    \n

    1. Integrated course<\/h4>\n
    In the first half of the course, students learn basic vocabulary, expressions and grammar, and practice simple daily conversations. In the second half of the course, students learn grammar, vocabulary and expressions that are often used in day-to-day life so that they can understand and participate in daily conversations on various subjects. Also, the second half of the course aims to ensure that students will learn not only everyday conversation, but also how to explain and speak about themselves, covering matters such as their country, specialism and interests.

    2. Speaking course<\/h4>\n
    This course aims to handle conversations with more subjects, building on the grammar and vocabulary learned in the Integrated course. During the classes, students will learn everyday expressions and basic phrases that are often used and practice using them by performing role-play in day-to-day scenes such as inviting someone, asking for directions, and shopping. Also, exercises to speak with Japanese people about common topics such as travel, famous spots and food in one\u2019s own country are included so that students can make basic introductions.

    3. Kanji course<\/h4>\n
    Prior to learning kanji, students learn katakana and practice the usage thoroughly. Kanji that are often seen and used in various settings of everyday life are introduced using the textbooks \u201cGenki I\u201d and \u201cGenki II\u201d. Classes cover correct kanji shapes, stroke orders, onyomi and kunyomi readings, and the components of kanji vocabulary. Also, students practice reading sentences and writing compositions using the kanji they have learned.
    \nAccurate reading is the focus of classes for learners from countries where Chinese characters are used but who do not know how to read kanji in Japanese despite of their considerable knowledge of kanji. Students will also increase their vocabulary with words based on the kanji they have learned.

    4. Culture and Presentation course<\/h4>\n

    This course covers Japanese culture, Japanese society and Japanese ways of thinking, etc. mainly by learning about the following elements:<\/p>\n

    1. Learn about Japanese culture and Japanese society, such as the Japanese diet, education system, subcultures and Japanese life. Also includes Japanese cultural experiences such as cooking practice of Japanese food and a day trip.<\/li>\n
    2. Acquire skills to explain one\u2019s own country and culture in Japanese. At the completion of the course, students will make presentations about their own country and culture, taking questions and answers in Japanese.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
